The Prosper football uniform is emblazoned with the letters “DYJ” on the front. The popular mantra “Do your job,” is a reminder to players to control their sphere of influence and to complete their individual tasks for the greater good of the team.
Perhaps no player in the program embodies that attitude more than Jake Majors. The Texas commit just wrapped up his high school career, and he was relied upon as a three-year starter to provide his teammates with leadership and toughness.
Prosper head coach Brandon Schmidt told Horns247 during the spring that Majors is the hardest worker on the team.
““He’s just a wonderful young man,” he said. “He’s a pleasure to work with. He’s one of the hardest workers on our team. He’s a high academic kid and a high character kid. He brings the whole package to the table. When you get a kid with those intangibles and combine those with the physical tools, that’s how you end up going to the University of Texas.”
Schmidt went on to say that getting that type of leadership from the offensive line unit was essential to becoming a physical team.
“I think it’s a tremendous advantage for us because the offensive line has to be the hardest working unit on any football team,” he said. “When you have that kid who’s the hardest worker on that position group, it sets the tone for the offense. It also sets the tone for the team. If you’re a defensive lineman at practice, you better bring it every day.”
Majors’ blue-collar personality comes from his parents Traci and Brent who both work in the healthcare field. His community is another big component. Though Prosper is a burgeoning Dallas suburb experiencing massive growth, it was a small-town farming community not long ago. The team participates in 6AM workouts during the spring, and no player is exempt from the weight room without a good reason.
Majors’ lunchpail style was evident this summer during The Opening Finals in Frisco, TX. Majors worked for the first time as an interior prospect at center, and he struggled to match up against the larger prospects at defensive tackle. Majors had never worked on the interior, and he always played left tackle.
He wasn’t used to taking drop steps from anywhere other than the left tackle position. After a particularly brutal morning session, Majors grabbed his camp coach and worked on the position in the ballroom of the hotel they were staying in. When he emerged, Majors started to win more than his fair share of battles.
Majors’ hard work in the classroom allowed him to graduate early, and he’ll enroll in Austin in January. Heading into a culture looking for toughness and hard work, Majors should be right at home as a Longhorn.
At 6-foot-3.5, 283 pounds, Majors is ranked as the No. 5 center in the nation and No. 27 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite.
